The Dead Space remake adds a new Master Override Security Clearance Level that wasn’t in the original game. To get this new clearance, you’ll have to complete a side mission that continues until near the end of the game.
You might find these new Master Override doors or crates as you fight your way through the USG Ishimura, but you won’t be able to open them until you complete the “You Are Not Authorized” side mission in Chapter 10.
Our Dead Space Master Override guide will tell you when and where you can complete each step of the “You Are Not Authorized” side mission and then where to find every door and crate the Master Override unlocks.
How to start the “You Are Not Authorized” side mission
There are a couple ways you can pick up the You Are Not Authorized side mission.
The most direct way is to visit the security station in the Captain’s Nest room on the Bridge during Chapter 4 “Obliteration Imminent.”
If you didn’t get it at that point (we missed it initially), you can pick it up at any point by attempting to interact with a Master Override locked item — things like doors or lockers or containers. There are several you’ll pass by, but an obvious one is in the door in the RIG Room during Chapter 7 “Into the Void.”
Use your Locator
Once you have the side mission, open up your RIG menu and tab over to Missions. On the right side, you’ll see a list of all seven RIGs you need to find. Select one and choose Track Objective to have your Locator lead you there. (Any you can’t reach at the time will have a red icon next to them and you’ll have to come back for those later.)
Find Hangar Overseer Voelkner’s RIG
You’ll find Hangar Overseer Voelkner’s RIG, unsurprisingly, in the Hangar. Head to the Mining/Engineering deck, go through the Control Room, and into the Cargo Lift. From there, you’ll find your way up to the Flight Deck after a bunch of flying around in zero-G. Voelkner’s RIG is floating outside the ship (near an oxygen recharge station).
Find First Officer White’s RIG
First Officer White’s RIG is outside of the ship in the ADS Cannon Trench. You’ll probably find it during Chapter 4 “Obliteration Imminent.” After defeating the Brute and rerouting power, you’ll have to head outside to retrain the ADS Cannons. Just past the third set of cannons, you’ll find White’s RIG floating on the left side of the trench (on the south side if you’re looking at your map).
Find Lt. Commander Holt’s RIG
Lt. Commander Holt’s RIG is in Hydroponics. You’ll pass by it during Chapter 6 “Environmental Hazard” while dealing with the toxin-spewing Wheezers. After injecting the fourth Wheezer, you’ll clear some necromorph tentacles by shooting glowing yellow sacs in the East Grow Chamber. Holt’s RIG is under one of these growths near the central column.
Find Mining Supervisor Dallas’ RIG
You’ll find Mining Supervisor Dallas’ RIG as part of Chapter 7 “Into The Void” while trying to launch the SOS Beacon. When you Find the Admin RIG, it’s Dallas’ that you find.
Find Chief Engineering Rosseau’s RIG
Once you pick up Dallas’ RIG, you’ll get Security Clearance Level 3. You’ll need that to reach Chief Engineer Rosseau’s RIG in Mining/Engineering. Head through the Control Room and into the necromorph tissue-lined Fuel Storage room (all the way east on your map). You’ll find Rosseau’s RIG in the locked room there. Just watch for the necromorph that pops through the vent when you pick it up.
Find Comms Officer Bailey’s RIG
Finding Comms Officer Bailey’s RIG takes you back to the Bridge (Chapter 8 “Search and Rescue” takes you to the exact same spot, actually). Head to the Main Atrium, take the closer elevator to Floor 3, and head through the Comms Control Room. You’ll find Bailey’s office next to the save point there and Bailey’s RIG is on the desk inside.
Find Tram Supervisor Benson’s RIG
You can’t retrieve Benson’s RIG until Chapter 10 “End of Days” when the Crew Deck reopens. Once you’re back on the Ishimura, head to the Crew Deck and into the (very dark) Tram Tunnel. After a quick necromorph attack, Benson’s RIG will be on your right next to a crate.
Build Master Security Override
With all seven Crew RIGs in hand, head back to the Captain’s Nest on the Bridge to build the Master Security Override. This gets you a new clearance level (it’s marked with a star on the doors and your map) and earns you the Full Clearance Achievement or Trophy.
Master Security Override door locations
There are eight Master Override doors and crates across the Ishimura in the Dead Space remake. Six are available as soon as you get the Master Override. The seventh and eighth aren’t available until Chapters 11 and 12, respectively.
Bridge master override
The Master Override door on the Bridge is on Floor 5 in Water Purification. Take the elevator closest to the front of the ship in the Main Atrium. The door to Water Purification Storage is immediately to your right at the top.
Inside, you’ll find various items, ammo, and a node, along with the High Yield Grenades Pulse Rifle Upgrade.
Mining (Mining/Engineering) master override
Back in Mining/Engineering, get out of the tram on the Mining side. Go through Mining Operations, and you’ll find the Tool Storage Room opposite the RIG Room. (This is also a good place to make use of the infinite money exploit.)
Inside the Tool Storage Room, you’ll find some items, ammo, and credit, and a Master Override crate with the Diffraction Module Contact Beam Upgrade.
(This room also has a key to translate all of the necromorph writing around the ship.)
Hydroponics master override
The Master Override crate in Hydroponics is actually closer to Mining. From the Mining Tram Station, take the elevator up to Hydroponics. When the doors open, you’ll be facing the crate just a little down the hall.
Inside, you’ll pick up the Precision Lasers Line Gun Upgrade.
Engineering (Mining/Engineering) master override
From the Engineering side of the Engineering Tram Station, head through the Control Room, into the Preparation Room, and down the stairs to the Machine Shop. This Master Override crate is right next to that room’s Bench.
Grab the Carbon Fiber Blades Ripper upgrade from it.
Crew Quarters master override
There are two Master Override crates in the Crew Quarters that you can reach after you unlock the elevator with the Crew Deck Key during Chapter 10 “End of Days.”
Once the elevator is running, take it down to Floor 1 (following the main mission path) and the Central Nexus. After a trip through the Standard Quarters, you’ll find your way to the Deluxe Quarters.
There are a few steps before you get to this crate, though. First, find the battery in the Deluxe Quiet Bunks room and install it in the socket next to the Deluxe Bathroom. Switch the circuit breaker there to Doors and head into the Deluxe Shift Bunks to find this Master Override crate.
Opening this one gets you the High-Pressure Nozzle Flamethrower upgrade.
Just after that, you’ll head into the Executive Quarters (along the main mission’s path). When you enter the common area with the four rooms attached to it, the room you’re looking for is the first on your right — Lt. Commander V. Holt’s room. You’ll need to grab the Executive Keycard from the Executive Bathrooms to unlock the door. When you get there, hold off on destroying the tendril until after you’re done looting the area — destroying it summons a small mob of necromorphs.
In Holt’s room, you’ll find the Master Override crate with a Gold Semiconductor (which is worth a disappointing 3,000 credits) inside.
Cargo Bay master override
Right at the beginning of Chapter 11 “Alternate Solutions,” you’ll head into the Cargo Bay. Take the elevator down (the Peng treasure is immediately to your left at the bottom), and stick to the right side of the bay. A little way down, there will be a Guardian necromorph (the ones stuck to the wall) on the right. Take it out, and this Master Override crate is just to the left of it.
This one contains the Suspension Module Force Gun upgrade.
Aegis VII master override (spoilers)
The final Master Override crate is down on Aegis VII during Chapter 12 “Dead Space.” Escort the Marker from the Landing Pad though the (frustratingly light on supplies) Supply Depot. The next large room you visit is the Transfer Junction. Take a left as soon as you come in (after dealing with the pair of Guardian necromorphs on your right), and follow the left wall past the Stasis recharge station.
A few steps past it, you’ll find the Master Override crate containing three nodes.
